Personal development, health and physical education

Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for between 1.5 and 2.5 hours per week in Kindergarten to Year 6.

PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.

Crunch and sip

To promote healthy eating, Marayong Public School participates in the crunch and sip program. For 10 minutes each day students are permitted to eat one piece of fruit washed down with some water outside of regular eating times. This provides students with the opportunity to recharge and refocus during lessons.

School sport

To complement weekly PDHPE programs, students in 3-6 are involved in school sport. Students are taught the theory and skills to play popular spots enjoyed in Australia. These sports are aligned with those offered by the Primary Sports Association to enable all students an equal opportunity to try out for sporting teams that compete against other schools in the Blacktown district.

Primary school sports association (PSSA)

Marayong Public School is an active participant in both the summer and winter PSSA competitions. Students turning 8 years or above are provided with the opportunity to try out for selected sports each season. If successful, students then participate in training sessions to prepare for a weekly competition against other schools in the local Blacktown area. For more information on what sports are offered in summer and winter please go to the extra-curricular activities page.

Sports carnivals

Marayong Public School has a swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals. Students that are turning or are 8 years of age or older are elligible to participate in our sports carnivals. Based on carnival results our mainstream and support students can represent our school and Blacktown at the zone, regional, state and national level in swimming, cross country and athletics.
